Yet to win a grand slam title, Dementieva downed Safina 3-6 7-5 6-3. In doubles, American sisters Venus and Serena Williams won their second gold medal, beating Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual, of Spain 6-2, 6-0. The Williams siblings won the doubles in Sydney eight years ago. Roger Federer and Stanilas Wawrinka, of Switzerland, won the Beijing doubles gold medal
